Foreign Investors in Thailand Property

Thailand’s property is one of the most popular in Asian for foreigners as an investment. Because the Thai real estate market has numerous advantages such as reasonable price, good quality, better yield return & capital gain. According to CBRE Thailand, it revealed Chinese was the highest buyers in Thailand property at 67%, followed by Hong Kong 7%, Malaysia 4%, Canada 4%, Japan 2%, Taiwan 2% and India 2%.

Why Thailand property so popular among Chinese and Hong Kong buyers? Based on Juwai.com's data on Chinese inquiries into buying property, it stated Thailand reflects excellent offering not just only the worth investment prospect, but also appealed lifestyles (such as accessible culture, cookery tradition, high quality medical and good education). During 2018, the company estimated 15,000 new condominiums sold to Chinese and Hong Kong buyers with sale valued at US$2.3 billion. Currently, Thailand ranks as the fourth most popular investment destination for Chinese after the United States ($30.4 bn), Hong Kong ($16.2 bn) and Australia ($14.1 bn). The company also expected Thailand remains the popular rank and continue robust among Chinese buyers. In the 1st quarter of 2019, more than four times of property buying inquiries in Thailand than a year earlier.

The common areas located in the center of Bangkok, where foreigners were interested in buying properties. Sukhumvit Road and Ratchdaphisek Road were the most popular areas, said by Nexus company. Apart from Bangkok, Pattaya and Chiang Mai are also popular investment destinations. While Koh Samui and Krabi are becoming more attractive as those provinces have beautiful beaches and direct flights from China. However,  the economic challenges such as slowdown of the Chinese economy, the depreciation of yuan currency against the dollar, and growing constraints on currency transfer out of China might impact on demand.
